The choice of oil used by the therapist will depend on the patient's physical condition, emotion, what memory the oil evokes and of course its therapeutic effects. The treatment is deeply relaxing, reducing stress, anxiety and instilling an overall feeling of well-being.
A full body aromatherapy massage will last 1 1/4 hours. It is advisable to rest after any complementary therapy treatment allowing the body to re-adjust and accept the therapeutic change. It is also advisable not to eat a full meal at least two hours before the treatment and to drink more water after.
Aromatherapy has been practiced for thousands of years and during that period has been closely intertwined with herbalism. Essential oils were developed for medicine, pharmaceuticals, perfumes, cosmetics and embalming. Several great names have also been associated with essential oils; Hippocrates, Theophrastus, Galen and Dioscorides. In later years during its unwinding from herbalism Gattefosse, Valnet, Maury, Arcier, Tisserand influenced the use of essential oils to become acceptable as a treatment therapy in this country. Since then there has been an increasing escalation of interest and research in essential oils' therapeutic uses to encourage healing of the mind, body and soul.
